Hosted in Le Sappey-en-Chartreuse, the eight-day programme responded to growing social divisions by using artistic expression as a universal language. Participants explored how creativity can break down stereotypes, reduce fear of differences and inspire empathy across cultures. Supported by six group leaders and two facilitators, the exchange aligned with several European Youth Goals, including Inclusive Societies, Mental Health & Well-being, Sustainable Green Europe, and quality learning through non-formal education.
Through ice-breakers, role plays, storytelling, collective painting, dance movement workshops and outdoor activities, the project fostered trust, teamwork and personal growth. Daily reflections and group discussions helped participants connect their learning to Youthpass competences, while intercultural evenings created a vibrant space to share food, music and traditions.
A highlight of the exchange was the creation of a large collaborative painting illustrating participants’ visions of inclusion and diversity. During a public event, local residents were invited to contribute their own ideas, strengthening ties between the group and the community and leaving behind a lasting symbol of unity.
Participants developed a wide range of skills—creative, social, digital and linguistic—while those with fewer opportunities reported gaining confidence and a renewed sense of belonging. At the end of the project, all participants received a Youthpass certificate recognising their learning achievements.
