We are happy to announce that tomorrow, July 23rd between 12-2 PM, Didi A. Devapriya, president of AMURTEL Romania, will be part of the Developing Cooperative Spirit - an online, interactive panel discussion during the “Making Space for Change” 2020 PROUT Convention.

As the dominant capitalist economic paradigm faces serious challenges to deal with the enormous changes and pressures created by the global pandemic, there is a pressing need to design more resilient economies. Cooperatives can play a powerful role in creating a true economic democracy in which people can exercise decision making power that directly impact their lives in very visible ways.

However, managing and running a successful cooperative requires a set of values and competencies that are not currently highlighted in traditional forms of education, starting from kindergarten and all the way up to business schools. This panel discussion will draw on the experience of three very different types of experts that cover the full range of education and how to embed the values needed for shifting towards a cooperative economy in all levels of education.

Elena Badeanschi has been working for more than 17 years with the Federeazione della Cooperazione in northern Italy where she has spent more than 10 years researching, developing and practically applying a program that validates the main competencies needed for managers and boards of cooperatives. Ole Vishvashantii Brekke has been leading workshops for teachers and students from highschool to university level on cooperative education methods. Didi A. Devapriya is an international teacher trainer in Neohumanist Education and focused particularly on the early years. She will be looking at how nurture the values needed for a cooperative society already from the early years.

Ample space will be given for questions and answers and interactions between the panelists.
